HIGHLIGHTS
 LUCIAN FREUD’s modern-day Venus, Pregnant Girl, sold for £16.1 million / $23.2 million. This
portrait of Freud’s lover, 17-year-old Bernadine Coverley, pregnant with their daughter (Bella
Freud), set a new record for an early painting by the artist. Having been in the same collection for
over 30 years, no fewer than six bidders drove the price to over £9 million above the pre-sale low
estimate.
 AUGUSTE RODIN’s Iris, Messagère des dieux sold for £11.6 million / $16.7 million. A lifetime cast of
this daring sculpture achieved a new auction record for the artist in GBP. Once in the collection of
Sylvester Stallone, the same cast last appeared at auction in 2007, when it sold for a then-record
£4.6 million.
 PABLO PICASSO’s Tête de femme sold for £18.9 million / $27.1 million. This portrait of Picasso’s
greatest muse, Marie-Thérèse Walter brought the top price across London’s Impressionist sales.
The work, full of erotic love for the woman who was pregnant with his child at the time of painting,
features a crescent moon across her face, a symbol of Diana, god of fertility.
 ALBERTO BURRI’s Sacco e Rosso sold for £9.1 million / $13.2 million. Last sold at auction in 2007 for
£1.9m / $3.8m, this masterpiece (a highlight of the Guggenheim retrospective) nearly doubled the
previous auction record for the artist (£4.7m set in February 2014). Five years ago, Burri’s record
was just £1.9m.The result now places Burri alongside other post-war Italian contemporary masters:
Piero Manzoni and Lucio Fontana.
