DEMANIO MARITTIMO.Km-278 Edition 6 22 July 2016, 6 pm – 6 am Beach of Marzocca di Senigallia

Amongst rocks, boats and fishing nets, every year since 2011, Demanio Marittimo.Km-278 comes to life for one night, from sunset to dawn, on the beach of Marzocca di #senigallia.
The project, directed by Cristiana Colli and Pippo Ciorra, is an uninterrupted 12-hour flow dedicated to contemporary culture - art, architecture, #design, food, culture and innovation - a representation of the Adriatic Sea and the beach as a public space and a meeting place.

On 22 July, from 6 pm to 6 am, the sixth edition will take place, promoted by MAPPE magazine and Demanio Marittimo.Km-278 Association, with the collaboration of MAXXI, Museum of Art of the 21th century, the Municipality of #senigallia, the Marche Region, and with the sponsorship of a wide network of enterprises, institutions, national and international cultural associations.

The #event will open with the salutation of Vittorio Gagliardini, editor of MAPPE, Maurizio Mangialardi, Mayor of #senigallia, followed by the presentation of the sixth issue of MAPPE with Mario Gagliardini and director Cristiano Toraldo di Francia.

The many long awaited guests on the shore will include architects with Superstudio, Daniel Libeskind, Mario Cucinella, photographers such as Olivo Barbieri and Petra Noordkamp, thinkers and scholars, such as sociologist Aldo Bonomi, journalist and essayist Antonio Calabrò, genetist Edoardo Boncinelli, whose dialogue with Superstudio has created the definition of “Architecture Istograms”, and writers like Graziano Graziani with his curious “Atlas of Micronations”.

Contemporary art will have its space with the young artists invited by Andrea Bruciati, performers Adina Mocanu & Alexandra Sand, looking at art in its relation with architecture – through the work of video artists Nadia Hironaka and Matthew Suib linked to Superstudio – and with society through the projects of a great international artist such as #alfredojaar – live from Santiago del Chile, who will present the The Gift, project 2016, in collaboration with MOAS, the Migrant Offshore Aid Station. During the 12 hours of Demanio some volunteers will distribute the boxes created from the statement that nobody deserves to die. The icon of the sea – by means of the artistic and authorial proposal - becomes the point of contact between responsibility and project, inclusion and care, information and awareness.

Networking also explains the presence of the “in camping” curators of the a,m,o #arte, Marche, oltre project, the evolution of Perfect Number, the project that traditionally closes the exhibition season of Sponge ArteConteporanea (Casa Sponge), a cultural space in Pergola, in the Pesaro-Urbino province, which takes up a different form every year, with number 9 - the number of rooms in the rural house - as fil rouge. This year the final #event is not an exhibition, but a touring project that aims at training 9 under-35 curators coming from all over Italy: Roberta Aureli, Caterina Benvegnù, Maila Buglioni, Valentina Carollo, Carlo Maria Lolli Ghetti, Cecilia Serbassi, Valentina Tebala, Saverio Verini and Stefano Volpato. The voices of the curators involved in the project, with the moderation of Massimo Mattioli, Artribune, will join the ones of Giovanni Gaggia, artistic director of Sponge #arte Contemporanea and Davide Quadrio, director of Art Hub Asia.

The homage to the Master of territory 2016 will be for Andrea Pazienza 60 years from his birth, in a meeting moderated by Leandro Palestini, journalist, with Albano Paolinelli, painter and set designer, as well as his teacher in Pescara, and Luca Raffaelli, Italian journalist, ensayist and set designer with expertise in comics and animation. As regards the “front” of architecture and its role in our time, the reference will be the Biennale and its international guests, in a meeting with the Golden Lion for the Spanish Pavillion Inaqui Carnicero, Shumi Bose, critic and member of the curator team for the British Pavilion, and architect Cristoph Grafe, commissioner of the Belgian Pavillion. Together with them, the English collective Assemble Sugarhouse Studio, Turner Prize 2015, will take part in a conversation moderated by architect Richard Ingersoll.
Then the focus will be on the importance of recycle with Sara Marini and the YAP winners of the various editions in a dialogue with the young Demanio Contest winners.

For this edition the geographies of Demanio Marittimo.Km-278 will be articulated on the topic of migration and the new walls erected in Europe, 25 years after Vlore, the most symbolic of contemporary exoduses - the one of the great ships that reached Brindisi from Albania. The meeting coordinated by Christian Caliandro will explore the role of culture in such a phenomenon, together with Antonio Calabrò, journalist and ensayst, Carlo Testini, National Cultural Coordinator for ARCI, Federica Candelaresi, General Secretary of BJCEM, the Biennial of Young Artists from Mediterranean Europe, the Portuguese editor Catarina de Almeida Brito, the founder of the Migrant magazine with a group of philosophers and anthropologists in London, Herida Duro, from the Ministry of Culture/Art Sector, Republic of Albania, Sofjan Jaupaj Ministry of Culture, Republic of Albania and #alfredojaar.
The new geographies will also be the topic of the meeting about the idea of “micronation” starting from the book of Graziano Graziani during a talk with Francesco Cancellato, director of Linkiesta, Aldo Bonomi, Founder and Director of Consorzio Aaster and geographer Franco Farinelli.

Design and the enlarged boundaries of #design and communication when they encounter culture and society will be the focus of the meeting between Cristiana Colli, the director of Artribune Massimiliano Tonelli and Francesco Cavalli, creative director of Leftloft, a studio with offices in Milan and New York, together with international experiences such as Documenta, promoter of “Touchpoint”, a co-design experiment that is currently in progress during XXI Triennale of Milan and “Luft”, a think tank that experiments boundaries between disciplines, communications and #design.

The architecture and #design speed talks by Gianluigi Mondaini and Riccardo Diotallevi will take place in a new format: 60+60+3+3 will be the story of objects and projects.

Meetings, readings, lectures, exhibitions, performances, installations, videoprojections, talks, food tasting, presentations of projects, books and films will convert the beach in a place for discussion and narration on #design, culture and innovation, contemporary histories and geographies. The big news about the Map in augmented reality for the 2016 edition is the first initiative that takes place only on the platform, an autonomous development of the project in the online section: 12 episodes – one for every hour of Demanio - of Wikiradio, which are the result of the strategic partnership with Rai Radio 3. The selection, directed by Loredana Rotundo and Cristiana Colli, will include historical sessions, such as the one dedicated to Vlore and the landings in Brindisi, to Andrea Pazienza, to the Sarajevo siege, to Kossovo and the Balkans. The selection, inspired by Demanio tracers, is an ongoing project that, starting from a cult program, wants to experiment the integrated development of the platform from the Adriatic and contemporary perspective.

Another crucial axis of Demanio Marittimo.Km-278 is the attention paid to young Italian #design that is translated every year into a lab for proposals, in the form of contests to #design the beach set up, the merchandising and the street food dish of the #event.

For 2016 the beach takes the shape of a space designed with light. With the layout designed by a team of graduands from SAAD (SCUOLA DI ATENEO #architettura #design – ASCOLI PICENO) a luminous constellation will define the space of Demanio Marittimo.Km-278: volumes of light will create the areas of the various events: stages, projections, exhibition spaces, food and tasting ... The three young winners of the #design contest are Andrea Cavatassi (1990), Andrea Cinciripini (1990), and Alessia Guaiani (1992).

The award for the merchandising contest will go to Chiara De Angelis (from SAAD – SCUOLA DI ATENEO DI #architettura #design – ASCOLI PICENO) with “Sepparola”, an object inspired by an old wooden fishing bait that has been technologically revisited through the use of 3D printers and LEDs, as a decorative mnemonic sign of the #event.

The prize for the ideas contest dedicated to Demanio Marittimo Street Food will be awarded by the jury chaired by Mauro Uliassi to the official dish of the night, the “sandwich between land and sea” by Chadia El Karouachia, (I.I.S. “A.Panzini” of Senigallia) inspired by the association of sea, hills and mountains that is a distinguishing feature of the Marche Adriatic coast.

Demanio Marittimo.Km-278. The beach as a metaphor
The beach is a place of thoughts and dialogues, a junction of imagination, a place of economies and urban transformations, nature and sustainable economies, a paradigm of #design in empty spaces, suspended between the anthropology of tourists and travellers. As a place for departures and arrivals, approaches and separations, the beach recaps the tale of the journey, of the territory, of Elsewhere along the Adriatic City, the most literary and at the same time the most industrialized of the Italian beaches. The beach is also a landing place for migrants, a space of belonging and expropriation, encounters and collisions, a symbol of the dialogue historically maintained by the territory with the other side of Mar Piccolo. The beach is a platform for cultural, economic and artistic relations. It is a limes, infrastructure, a landing and destination of future development on the Italian and the transnational ridge.
In this context the small village of Marzocca is an interrogating short-circuit, a shore that is still designed by small fishing activities with places such as Madonnina del Pescatore by Moreno Cedroni, which boasts an international reputation and presence on cuisine guides and in the global media imagination. Marzocca is an old and in-actual beach that maintains traces and anticipations, suspended between the memory of the place and a slow version of modernity.

MAPPE
Demanio Marittimo.Km-278 is the most evolved cultural form of the cognitive-entrepreneurial network led by Gruppo Gagliardini, also including Mappe magazine - a registered newspaper - Mappelab portal and MStore – an e-commerce dedicated to the valorisation of Marche #design and manufacturing activities. The project is founded on a richly articulated public and private network at regional, national and international level, which is open to the communities that operate around contemporary projects - art, architecture, #design, entreprise, and communication.
Mappe, the magazine directed by Cristiano Toraldo di Francia, has affirmed and consolidated itself in almost 20 years of publishing and cultural activities in collaboration with the entire supply chain of the Marche and Adriatic project; it has enhanced and promoted the architectural quality of the territory through a punctual and disciplinary narration recognised as worthy source in multiple contexts.
