The MATA venue in Modena – a former tobacco factory – will host Seismic Sequence

From October 21, 2017 to February 4, 2018 the MATA venue in #modena – a former tobacco factory –  will host Seismic Sequence, an exhibition curated by Filippo Maggia, in collaboration with Teresa Serra.

The exhibition includes works by seven international photographers  – Alicja Dobrucka (Poland), Hallgerður Hallgrímsdóttir (Iceland), Naoki Ishikawa (Japan), Tomoko Kikuchi (Japan), Eleonora Quadri (Italy), Olivier Richon (Switzerland/UK), Valentina Sommariva (Italy) –  who have been working in Emilia and in Central Italy to document the earthquake that struck the country between 2009 and 2016: a series of distinct events that, through images, are united in a choral dimension, despite the variety of views adopted by each artist.

To complete the project is a documentary video conceived and realised by Daniele Ferrero and Roberto Rabitti, shot in the same places visited by photographers, at different moments.

A further section of the exhibition is represented by an important selection of historical photographs of earthquakes in Italy, curated by Chiara Dall’Olio: from the 1857 quake in Basilicata to the dreadful #event which severely damaged Messina and Reggio Calabria in 1908.
