Expo Milano 2015, in the pavilion of the Santa Sede exposed tapestry by Rubens

Press release available only in Italian

From this morning visitors to Expo 2015 can see a new work of art. It is the tapestry of Peter Paul Rubens "The institution of the Eucharist" and is in the pavilion of the Santa Sede. The masterpiece of Flemish painter, which will be exhibited until 31 October, takes the place of the Last Supper by Tintoretto, who returns to the church of San Trovaso in Venice.

"The institution of the Eucharist" by Rubens comes from the Diocesan Museum of Ancona: different version of the Last Supper by Tintoretto, the tapestry depicts Christ with Peter and John to his right to his left in the juncture of the consecration of the bread and wine. Among the apostles he stands Judas turning to the audience, his chin resting on his hand, not a participant and distracted.

The tapestry was found for the first time in the sacristy of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Ancona in 1821. Damaged during the Second World War, remained at the Central Institute for Restoration until 1984, when it was reported in the city for the Marche restoration in the laboratory at the Diocesan Museum, where it is exposed.
