AGAINST THE NIGHT: Riikka Lenkkeri's exhibition casts a look at Finnish bedrooms in the early hours of the morning

Press release available only in original language.

The exhibition casts a look at Finnish bedrooms in the early hours of the morning. Lenkkeri’s full-body portraits of bodies pressed into their soft beds show our everyday body language, which at the same time is concealed from the public eye.

Nowadays, we document our lives posing and displaying our best sides in pictures. The everyday situations and ordinary people of Lenkkeri’s paintings have been depicted from perspectives that we are accustomed to avoid and be ashamed of.

Lenkkeri, who received her art education in Italy, combines in a unique way the traditions of European art with present-day motifs. She portrays her models realistically, but at the same time accepts them as people – just the way we are.
