After the Great War, collecting contemporary art for a small bank in Valtellina was not something quite normal. So it was an innovative choice, for the same bank, grown in size and vision, to offer the city a "public" gallery dedicated to contemporary art in the heart of Milan, at the Stelline Refectory in Corso Magenta. A venue soon risen to refer to the art system, which resulted in Milan and in Italy, under the artistic direction of Giovanni Quadrio Curzio, major international artists such as Andy Warhol, Matta, Joseph Beuys, Georg Baselitz, Rodchenko, Victor Brauner, Olivier Debré, Meret Oppenheim, Max Ernst, Jannis Kounellis and representatives of young Italian art, then became famous.
