Palazzo Bentivoglio presents Vestimenti

Palazzo Bentivoglio presents Vestimenti, a solo show by Sissi and one of the Main projects in ART CITY #bologna 2020 on the occasion of #artefiera.

Sissi (Bologna, 1977) emerges at the end of the 1990s, very young and still a student at the Accademia di Belle Arti di #bologna, revealing herself to be one of the most brilliant representatives of art in Italy. Her practice, since the very beginning, has made space for works ranging from #performance to sculpture, video to photography, drawing to painting. She often mixes these artistic languages, composing work that always has a recognizable signature. The body has been a central theme for the artist, though not the only one, often elaborated in her ways of living and inhabiting the world, or in single elements that make up our anatomy.

Vestimenti (Garments)collects an ample selection of the artist’s sculpture-clothing. A good part of the Sissi’s production over the years has, in fact, been concentrated on the creation of clothing, wearable objects, that the artist has always intended and presented as veritable sculptures in their own right. This is true also of works within larger installations and performances, such as in her first fundamental work Daniela missed the train (1999). The exhibition includes a large body of work, plenty to cover a twenty year career and to delve deeper into one of the cardinal themes of her poetics.

The sculptures will be presented through a large installation project imagined especially for the artist within the exhibition space of #palazzobentivoglio. A #performance will also be presented in which the artist will have a dialogue with the public and will highlight the ways in which these works are connected to our everyday lives, where they come from and what they aim to achieve.

The #performance will be on Sunday 26 January from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. Entry is free but given the limited size of the exhibition space spectators will only be admitted until capacity is reached.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a bilingual publication (Italian-English) edited by Corraini Edizioni with texts by Mariuccia Casadio (art critic, curator and journalist), Antonio Grulli (curator of the exhibition), and a dialogue between Sissi and the artist Christian Holstad. The book will be presented on 26 January at 4.30 pm in the company of the artist and the other authors.
