The meeting between Dante and Beatrice

To mark the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death (1321-2021), the #mart is paying tribute to the Supreme Poet with an exhibition on Incontro di Dante e Beatrice (1906) by #ardengosoffici, which is on loan from the Casa Raphael - Palace Hotel in Roncegno Terme.
The painting belongs to a series of artworks created by the Tuscan artist between 1905 and 1906. It was almost entirely destroyed during the First World War, and constitutes one of Soffici's most important artistic works before his exploration of the avant-garde movement.
Incontro di Dante e Beatrice will be exhibited alongside a series of paintings by Soffici housed in the #mart Collections. The series serves to explore Soffici's artistic journey, from cubo-futurist influences to a ‘return to order’.
