Oluce lights up the exhibition “Vico Magistretti. Milanese architect”

Oluce is one of the main players at the new retrospective dedicated to Vico Magistretti on show at the #triennalemilano

Triennale Milano is dedicating an exhibition to Vico Magistretti that, for the first time, covers the entire works by this Milanese architect and designer who, as a matter of fact, began his extraordinary career in the Palazzo dell’Arte.

After taking part in the centenary celebrations for Magistretti in 2020, Oluce is back as one of the must-have protagonists in this new retrospective due to be inaugurated on 11 May, represented by many of its most iconic lamps designed by this great Milanese architect.

The oldest Italian #design company in the lighting sector still in operation today, Oluce owes much of its success precisely to lengthy collaboration with Vico Magistretti. The designer, who guided #oluce as its art director for many years, designed some of the company’s most iconic products, leaving his unmistakable mark on the company and a heritage of products destined to become household names all over the world.

Thanks to themed sections, this new exhibition will, for the first time, provide visitors with a look at Vico Magistretti’s work as a whole, interweaving all the multiple declinations of architecture and #design to give an idea of the sheer breadth of his activity in an updated, critical interpretation that does far more than just celebrate his most famous icons.

Oluce will be present with #design sketches and many of its most iconic lamps designed by Magistretti that have written the company’s history: Sonora, the suspension lamp designed in 1976 that became famous for its pure geometric shape, Atollo, the undisputed icon recognised worldwide as the archetype of the table lamp and winner of the Compasso d’Oro prize in 1979, and finally Lyndon and Pascal, the perfect expression of Magistretti’s #design aesthetic and his love of simple shapes.

The inspiring principle that in fact guided Magistretti’s #design was always simplification and geometrics. The cone, sphere, and cylinder were the essential elements ever present in the projects that Vico designed in his thirty-year partnership with Oluce, writing one of those unique and irreplaceable chapters that have lent body and sense to the story of Italian #design. Making it one of a kind the world over.

This exhibition will be a must-visit for all fans and scholars of #design, a chance to gain in-depth insight and enjoy a close look at one of the most important pages in the history of Italian #design, an opportunity to view previously unseen material preserved by companies and by the Magistretti archives, in addition to a collection of some of the most iconic articles ever produced by Oluce.
