Jonni Cheatwood's sold-out debut at the gallery is a powerful, portentous body of work that dives headfirst into social issues including Covid and the Black Lives Matter movement.
The works are typical of Cheatwood's growing oeuvre: self-reflexive, tongue-in-cheek, humorous, and light-hearted... but also a poignant, relatable, and altogether human side of artist's personal struggle as mixed-race black and Latino man in modern-day America. The artist discusses that the works aren't all necessary reactionary or revolutionary, but internalized, where meaning exists 'beneath' these figures, and ultimately, a personal reflection on worldly and societal issues.
Andrew Salgado at Phillips Auction House, NY
Salgado Jake
Phillips Auction Houses present a rare opportunity to acquire a large-scale portrait by the Canadian-British artist.
This painting is typical of Salgado's 'early-stage' technique circa 2012-2016. The artist's style has undergone significant change from the trademark style that first garnered him much attention. This is an excellent example of the work that launched his career into international attention. As such, this is a very rare opportunity for collectors to acquire such a piece.
