Gagosian's Artist Spotlight to Feature Harmony Korine

New Painting Will Be Revealed on March 18 and Available Exclusively for 48 Hours

NEW YORK, March 9, 2022—Gagosian's Artist Spotlight—an #online series that focuses on an individual artist for one week each month—is pleased to present a recent painting by #harmonykorine. The featured work will be revealed at gagosian.com on March 18 and available exclusively #online for forty-eight hours.Rooted in modern American grotesquerie, Korine's paintings, drawings, assemblages, and films have proven influential and divisive in equal measure. Applying the term "mistakism" to his combination of wayward aesthetics and non sequitur wit, the Miami-based artist and filmmaker fuses backwoods surrealism with narcotic abstraction to conjure a perverse, disorienting vision. His paintings and mixed-media works incorporate materials such as leftover house paint and old videotapes in forms and images that reflect on memory and emotion while inducing a trancelike physiological reaction.Artist Spotlight: #harmonykorine features a new painting in acrylic, oil stick, and house paint on canvas that displays—as does the artist's work across all mediums—a fondness for "low" and popular culture, a strategic embrace of chance and error, and a pervasive sense of nostalgia. Reflecting his preference for rapid, intuitive application, the painting has a psychedelic edge that pushes it into the territory of the magical and the unknown. On March 16, a conversation between Korine and #ritaackermann, in which they discuss a recent group of paintings by Korine, will debut in Gagosian Quarterly.Artist Spotlight is a dynamic platform that enables artists to present their work in the digital realm, sharing their stories with a global audience #online. The series, which launched in April 2020 and is now in its third season, is presented once a month as a regular part of Gagosian's programming. Each installment highlights the work of an individual artist through new editorial features and archival content, and new work is made available with pricing information for forty-eight hours only.
