PAUSE TO MARVEL: Pieke Bergmans’ work bridging art and design
with Nitzan Cohen, Bart van der Heide, and the artist; Thursday 27 October 2022, 7 p.m. FREE ENTRY
On the occasion of the installation of the work Phenomeneon - Pause by Pieke Bergmans at the Parkhotel Laurin in #bolzano, on Thursday 27 October at 7 pm, #museion will host the talk Pause To Marvel. Pieke Bergmans' work, bridging art and design. In this conversation with the artist, dean of the faculty for design and art at Uni BZ Nitzan Cohen, and #museion director Bart van der Heide, we will dive into the themes explored in Bergmans’ work.
The work Phenomeneon - Pause will be the focus of the conversation, and an opportunity to reflect on the theme of slowness, the expansion of space and time.
“Nowadays we are all so busy, we rarely have a moment to just be, sit, wait or stare at something. If we have a spare moment we immediately grab to our mobile phones. We seldom just stand still,” says #piekebergmans, “When we do so, we often discover something. It can be small or large; Ants carrying objects to their nests. Clouds passing and transforming. The lines on our hands. After a pause and moment of awe we are present. We start feeling centered again and return to our core, are open, get ideas and come with solutions. We arrive in a space of possibilities.”
Guided by Cohen and van der Heide, the conversation will address the historical genealogy of these themes in art and design, and what the recent moments of acceleration have been - artistic, conceptual, personal, academic, pandemic - while also looking towards the future.
“Control. Precision. Perfection. This gives us a hold on our world. At the same time, there is a growing awareness that not all can be controlled. In nature everything flows, nothing stays the same. Phenomeneon is an invite. Let your expectations go. Be here, be now, and know what will be will be.”
