5th edition of AWDA, Aiap Women in Design Award

The awards ceremony for the 5th edition of
AWDA, Aiap Women in Design Award,
will be held on Friday 10 November at 6.00 pm,
at Triennale Milano.

In addition to discovering the sixty shortlisted projects, we will listen to the voices of personalities and representatives of design associations from around the world, who took part in the international jury and the research one.

An emblematic question will be the leading thread during the evening: "How many women are in the room?" an invitation to never lower our guard on the theme of female presence and representation in the design field as well as in all the others.

For the first time a special award - AWDA for Rights! - will be attributed to the project that best addressed the social issues of women’s rights and work, and more generally, gender inequalities in every areas.

Honorable mentions - one for each category of the award (students, researchers, professionals) - and the main award Aiap Women in Design Award will be awarded.

Finally, the merit of two designers who in the past decades have walked an innovative professional path contributing to the design culture in the field of visual and communication design will be acknowledged with the attribution of a Lifetime Achievement Award and a Career Award for Historic Achievement.

During the ceremony, entirely dedicated to women designers and the design discipline, there will be two special moments: one of testimony addressed to Iranian women on which we want to maintain our full focus and a moment of reflection reserved to John Walters, historical editor of Eye magazine.

The event is free upon registration on triennale.org

THE AWARD

AWDA is an award founded in 2012 by Cinzia Ferrara, Laura Moretti and Daniela Piscitelli. Since 2021 the curators are Cinzia Ferrara, Laura Moretti and Carla Palladino, supported by a small team of young designers: Alice Bianco, Costanza De Luca, Benedetta De Rossi, Elia Maniscalco, Bianca Sangalli Moretti, Lucia Tonelli.
AIAP, the Italian Association of Visual Communication Design, is AWDA Project Leader since the first edition.
ICoD, International Council of Design, has the role of Institutional Partner since 2019, and disseminates AWDA, as one of its main activities, through the design associations around the world.

AWDA is an international award, which aims to highlight those female figures of visual communication design, past, present and future, that history does not always mention, with a view to enhancing and promoting gender equality.

AWDA is much more than an award, it is a platform for discussion and dialogue, necessary in a historical moment in which women, in many countries of the world, are denied basic human rights and not only those related to the opportunity to study, work and create projects.
