The Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi will host a body of works by Chinese artist Jia Aili

Presentation of works by Jia Aili in the foyer of the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi

From Tuesday 5 May to Friday 31 July, the Teatrino will host a body of works by Chinese artist Jia Aili.

The exhibition features a body of six works – four of which have never been exhibited before – and is the first solo show a European museum dedicates to Jia Aili. Created between 2011 and 2015, these works bear witness to an innovating approach to painting in the cultural context of contemporary China. Jia Aili grew up during the Chinese economic modernisation and his works express the solitude of human beings facing the modern world: the characters are innocent and fragile creatures, searching for a History that is put together again with fragments, through the detritus of a burried world.

Born in 1979 in Liaoning (China), Jia Aili lives and works in Beijing. He graduated from the LuXun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang. His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions in China and overseas, in solo exhibitions at Singapore Art Museum, Singapore in 2012; Cornell University Hartell Gallery, NewYork in 2010; He Xiangning Art Museum, Shenzhen in 2010; Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts), London in 2010; Platform China, Beijing in 2007. Jia Aili’s work has been presented in collective exhibitions at the Pinchuk Art Centre, Kyiv in 2014; National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul in 2013; Guangzhou Triennale in 2008, Shanghai Art Museum in 2006 and 2007,China National Museum, Beijing in 2006.

Admission to the exhibition is free.
Open every day, except on Tuesdays, from 10am to 7pm.
