At Expo Milano 2015 Lita Boitano, President of the Family Association for Desaparecidos and Political Detainees

Cielo libre. Human rights and the importance of memory. This is the brave title of the meeting with Angela “Lita” Boitano, President of the Association "Familiares de Desaparecidos y Detenidos por Razones Politicas, organized inside the Argentina Pavilion. Lita, with such energy and an incredible joy of life, told us about her activism and fight to find the “Desaparecidos” and her two children, Miguel Angel and Adriana: the first kidnapped in 1976, the second a year later. They are two of the 30 thousand desaparecidos went missing during the regime between 1976 and 1983. “I always reported their disappearance of my two children right from the beginning thirty-nine years ago. No one listened to me in Argentina so I turned to Amnesty International and then to the Holy See”. “After many years – Boitano continues – I had the satisfaction to meet Pope Francis and held him tight to be sure that they would not take him away so he could listen to all I had to say. I gave him the book I presented here at the Expo today, Cielo Libre, Imaginar la libertad. It is a collection of poems written by prisoners during their darkest moments. Young people who dreamt about freedom and never gave up. Clear Sky. Imagine freedom. This title is what my children and our Desaparecidos must have felt”. The book was presented for the first time in Italy at Expo Milano 2015.
