Montreal (Canada), 29 June 2021 — #worlddesignorganization (WDO)® is pleased to announce today its #partnership with the #cittadiTorino and the #politecnicodiTorino, towards the establishment of the first World Design Library™ in #Torino (Italy). The library is set to be a public, national and international reference for in-depth study and research in the fields of design and environmental sustainability, in addition to a collection of the best design publications and artifacts.

Slated to open in 2026 in the restored Torino Esposizioni palace, work is currently underway to develop the scientific/curatorial team who will work under the guidance of Prof. Pier Paolo Peruccio - WDO Board Member and Associate Professor at the #politecnicodiTorino on the collection plan, which will include both paper and electronic reference resources.

“As part of our four-year strategic growth plan adopted in 2020, we are committed to working to support design research and education and are pleased to formalize this collaboration with our long-standing educational member #politecnicodiTorino ,” stated WDO President #srinisrinivasan. “Through this initiative, and as the first city to hold the World Design Capital® designation in 2008 awarded by WDO – formerly the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design, the city of #Torino will provide a place for study and research for those who work and/or are interested in the various fields of design. For the City of #Torino, this initiative will aggregate in both a physical and digital space to  serve as an important center for the collection of materials related to the excellence of Italian and international design.”

In addition to #Torino, WDO’s long-term objective is to establish a network of similar libraries in other cities around the world to further serve the global design community under the leadership of Professor Thomas Garvey, Treasurer of WDO and Associate Professor, School of Industrial Design Carleton University (Canada).

More information about this initiative will be shared in the months to come, as WDO will continue to work with the local community to determine the overall programme and services of the library.
