FONDAZIONE ANTONIO MORRA GRECO
ONLINE SYMPOSIUM
December 14, 15, 16, 2021

The EDI Global Forum promoted by #Fondazione.morra Greco presents three days of online panel discussions, webinars and workshops bringing together diverse perspectives from six continents addressing how we increase accessibility, diversity and inclusion, and sustainable development in art and education. By facilitating increased dialogue between policy-makers such as #nadiemmakarim (Minister of Education, Indonesia), art-educators such as #iftikhardadi (Cornell University), curators such as #aaroncezar (Delfina Foundation), artists such as Ahmed Ogut, and a wide array of publics, promoting active collaboration, co-creation, and respect for difference, EDI and this symposium endeavour to contribute to more humane and sustainable futures through transformative cross-cultural encounters with art and artistic thinking. The symposium will also feature education oriented tours of two of the newest physical infrastructures for culture which opened in 2021- GES-2 in Moscow and the Jim Thompson Art Center in Bangkok.

The symposium will launch the first stage of the EDI digital platform which links art education departments and initiatives across the world to develop new tools for art mediation while promoting the social role of the museum as an instrument of well-being and cultural participation. EDI: #ediglobalforumforeducationandintegration is an international network of art institutions and professionals who work to link artistic practices and education in innovative ways. It is an international hub of cross-cultural art education research, where, as is the case in a “think tank laboratory”, research is performed, experiences are shared, and knowledge is built and compared through structured debates and discussions. The activities of the EDI network serve to develop an open-source, world class Art Museum #educational Research Center with a special emphasis on digital and online education. EDI is a program created by the #Fondazione.morra Greco Foundation (Naples, Italy), funded under the program 2014/2020 POC managed by the Directorate General for Culture and Tourism of Regione Campania. Participation in the network is free and inclusive.

As the populations that art institutions around the world serve become increasingly diverse, the ways of mediating art for vastly different publics with vastly different cultural reference points need to reflect a greater variety of perspectives. The EDI platform exists to link art education departments  and initiatives across the world and it develops new tools for art mediation and promote the social role of the museum as an instrument of well-being and cultural participation. The #educational aim of the museum should form creative and free minds, able to relate to the multiplicity of situations in contemporary society.

The multimedia Experiences portal of EDI brings together case studies from member institutions and individuals describing #educational programs and tools that address the urgent topics of Accessibility, Diversity and Inclusion, and Sustainability. The Agora portal of EDI presents bi-monthly discussion forums centered on these topics led by international experts from the EDI network. The Research Lab compiles and shares multimedia resources to support the development of cross-cultural mediation tools and programming to allow for greater cohesion in an increasingly diverse yet increasingly divided society. The EDI platform and its research methodologies will follow thematic strands that will be expanded to further topics as it develops.  Direzione generale per le politiche culturali e il turismo

EDI is developed by an international interdisciplinary working group of a Scientific Committee and Ambassadors collaborating to develop research-action activities, protocols, scripts, tools, applications and demonstrators towards innovative and inclusive #educational methodologies involving the various players from the cultural community with a diverse representation of #educational models and institutional scales. The work of this group seeks to contribute to developing ethical guidelines on digital museum education, distance learning, artificial intelligence, and on the use of data in teaching and learning for operators and educators, with an emphasis on cross-cultural collaboration.

EDI intends to generate a reflection on, and an experimentation of, a new dimension of digital museum education.
