Coming up at YSP

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

This month we open new exhibitions by David Nash and Yukihiro Akama. We also look ahead to the first major UK museum exhibition of sculpture by Robert Indiana, opening on 12 March.

At the end of January, the Oak Project published significant new research which shows the power of art in inspiring and driving positive action for nature and climate. The project's first commission, Silence, is changing daily through the seasons – be sure to walk to the upper lake and connect to nature this half term or pick up a Sculpture and Nature Scavenger Hunt card from YSP Learning.

Book your visit in advance to explore the season with us.

EXHIBITIONS

DAVID NASH: FULL CIRCLE

Bothy Gallery, YSP Centre and The Weston Gallery
19 Feb–5 Jun 2022

Marking 40 years of collaboration with YSP, Full Circle is a new exhibition dedicated to David Nash's drawings inspired by trees, from the observational and documentary, through to intensely coloured, abstract works that capture the essence of their life force.

Full Circle also offers a chance to explore Nash’s site-specific works through a circular walk that links The Weston Gallery and Bothy Gallery, taking in sweeping views across the park and lakes.

YUKIHIRO AKAMA: KI NO IE

YSP Centre
26 Feb–29 May 2022

Working from a furniture maker’s #workshop in Huddersfield, Japanese artist Yukihiro Akama creates beautifully intricate miniature wooden houses, each one carved from a single piece of wood. Presented at YSP will be a collection of Akama's drawings and traditional Asian stilt houses, representing home, loss, identity and love.

All works will be available to purchase from YSP Shop with Own Art available.

ROBERT INDIANA: SCULPTURE 1958–2018

Underground Gallery and Open Air
12 Mar 2022–8 Jan 2023

We are thrilled to present the first major UK exhibition of sculpture by Robert Indiana (1928-2018). Bringing together over 50 works, Sculpture 1958-2018 explores themes of language, the American Dream, identity and social activism that remain relevant today. In the Underground Gallery the exhibition begins with early paintings and wooden constructions and extends out into the landscape with monumental works, including four of Indiana's iconic LOVE sculptures in colourfully painted aluminium and in Corten steel.

The exhibition is supported by Morgan Art Foundation Ltd. and the Henry Moore Foundation.
