Alejandra Gandía-Blasco displays her artwork at #madrid #design Festival 2022: "From dawn until dusk: study on the intangible condition of color and its materiality"

Capturing the color of light

The space of Gandia Blasco Group in #madrid will host until the 31st of March the temporary exhibition 'From dawn until dusk: a study on the intangible condition of color and its materiality'.
The artistic work of this installation created by #alejandragandiablasco, trained in Fine Arts, 'pauses a precise moment in the flow of time and its impact on what we see and do not see, since the effect of light and its expansion in multiple colors are barely visible to the eye. Only painting or a camera, as it happens in her works, can condense that moment', explains #joseluisclemente, art critic.

'Alejandra Gandía-Blasco has been developing since 2015 a study on the intangible condition of color and its materiality, based on a working methodology that allows her to obtain colors of natural light as if it were a mixture palette. In recent years, Alejandra has recorded around 6,000 images of a very concrete landscape: when the sun rises or sets, with the sky and sea by horizon in: Lanzarote, #ibiza, Flight to Paris, Comporta, Flight to Iceland, among other locations.

She takes these shots with her mobile phone's camera facing the sea or from the sky during a flight. The colors and shapes that she manages to record evoke the informal and material tendencies of abstract expressionism. Their print on matt and textured cotton paper makes them look like charcoal or watercolors, not works coming from digital media'.

Make tangible the intangible. Study of the color of a sunset

Visitors to the flagship store of the company Gandia Blasco Group in #madrid will be also able to admire and touch the result of transforming one of the artistic works of #alejandragandiablasco specifically Sunset in #ibiza 19.34 October 2015, into a 300 x 400 cm handcrafted rug, made using the hand-knotted technique in India for GAN, brand of Gandia Blasco Group.

Tachy Mora, curator and cultural journalist expert in #design, discovers some of its most surprising details: 'The color study that #alejandragandiablasco has been carrying on with her work since 2015 has led her, in turn, to investigate how to transfer it to other media, converting the intangibility of color, as an illusory product of light and its decomposition, into a tangible #design.

The SUNSET rug is based on a snapshot made in the north of #ibiza at 19:34 in October 2015. Alejandra has fragmented its different color and gradient areas, meticulously mapping each tone and its surface and identifying them with a chromatone (the color system used in wool). Thanks to this map, the artisans of India who make GAN rugs use the technique of hand-knotting for its elaboration, as this is the only way to obtain such complicated composition. Its development is taking more than three and a half years because to interpret and execute colors in the correct way is a process of extreme complexity.'

New perspectives around contemporary creation

Inferences exhibition at the Fernán Gómez #centroculturaldelavilla by the Il·lacions #design gallery

The crossover between Alejandra Gandía-Blasco's s 'Study of Light' and Oiko #design Office's #design concept has been brought to life at the Inferences / Inferencias, at the Fernán Gómez #centroculturaldelavilla theatre, which features more than 70 pieces of contemporary #design from creators linked to the  Il•lacions gallery.

The Barcelonian #design gallery selected one piece from each one of its creators, and then asked them to act as small-scale commissioners, encouraging them to contact an acclaimed artist so that they could also present a piece of work. This is how #alejandragandiablasco ended up participating in this exhibition that is open to the public until the 13th March in the backdrop of #madrid #design Festival 2022. #alejandragandiablasco displays the work ´Sunset 40 in Comporta´, registered at 19.38 in October 2018, (Photography I Limited edition | Hahnemühle William Turner 310g 110 x 146.5 x 0.2 cm), as requested by Oiko #design to be exhibited next to the #design piece ´Biography of a chair´.
