Gagosian’s Artist Spotlight to Feature Anselm Kiefer

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

NEW YORK, June 16, 2022—Gagosian's Artist Spotlight—an online series that focuses on an individual artist for one week each month—is delighted to present a sculpture by Anselm Kiefer. The featured work will be revealed at gagosian.com on June 24 and available exclusively online for forty-eight hours. The sculpture belongs to a series of life-size bronze figures cast from a long dress cinched at the waist in the style of a nineteenth-century bridal gown. Veiled in a white patina, the freestanding spectral garments are topped with "heads" that symbolize their subjects' roles and influence. In these works, Kiefer recalls the tragic heroines of anti-Christian persecution, extending his ongoing, multifaceted reflection on the world-shaping forces of history, mythology, and faith. In celebration of the artist and this Artist Spotlight, a sweepstakes launching on June 22 will offer the chance for the winner and a guest to join an exclusive tour at La Ribaute, Kiefer's 40-hectare former studio-estate in the South of France near Barjac, north of Nîmes, which he transformed over the course of several decades. Scheduled for September 10, the visit includes a guided walkthrough led by Gagosian director Georges Armaos, a greeting from Kiefer studio director Waltraud Forelli, and a private lunch amid the artist's monumental installations. On June 22, Gagosian Quarterly will publish essays by art historian Camille Morineau and curator Jérôme Sans that provide insight into the immersive environment of La Ribaute, considering its monumental installations and interventions in the context of the artist's oeuvre as a whole.Kiefer's exhibition Questi scritti, quando verranno bruciati, daranno finalmente un po' di luce (Andrea Emo) is currently on view at the Palazzo Ducale, Venice, through October 29. The presentation, whose title loosely translates to These writings, when burned, will finally cast a little light, coincides with the 59th Biennale di Venezia and takes its title from the writings of the Venetian philosopher Andrea Emo (1901–1983). Kiefer was invited by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia to present a site-specific installation of paintings that respond to both the Sala dello Scrutinio—one of the most important spaces in the Palazzo Ducale—and the history of Venice. This fall, Gagosian will organize two exhibitions of Kiefer's work, in New York and Los Angeles. The New York exhibition will be held at 555 West 24th Street; the Los Angeles exhibition will be presented by Gagosian at the Marciano Art Foundation, 4357 Wilshire Boulevard.Artist Spotlight is a dynamic platform that enables artists to present their work in the digital realm, sharing their stories with a global audience online. The series, which launched in April 2020 and is now in its third season, is presented once a month as a regular part of Gagosian's programming. Each installment highlights the work of an individual artist through new editorial features and archival content. Artworks are made available with pricing information for forty-eight hours only.#GagosianSpotlight
